Super Eagles Soar to CAF World Cup Play-Off Final with Dramatic 4-1 Extra-Time Victory Over Gabon

Nigeria's Super Eagles delivered a thrilling comeback in the CAF World Cup 2026 qualifying play-off semi-final, defeating Gabon 4-1 after extra time to secure their spot in the final against DR Congo. The match, played under pouring rain at Moulay Hassan Stadium, showcased the resilience and star power of the three-time African champions, keeping their dream of returning to the global stage alive.

The game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes, with Akor Adams giving Nigeria an early lead in the 23rd minute after capitalizing on a defensive blunder by Gabon's backline. Gabon equalized late through Mario Lemina in the 89th minute, forcing extra time and testing the Super Eagles' mettle.

In the first period of extra time, Chidera Ejuke restored Nigeria's advantage with a clinical finish, followed by Victor Osimhen's decisive brace – his second goal celebrated with a triumphant shirtless roar after removing his protective face mask. The Napoli striker, who had earlier missed a golden opportunity in stoppage time, redeemed himself emphatically, netting 13 goals and assists in his last 11 appearances for club and country.

Head coach Eric Chelle, in his unbeaten stint since taking charge in January as the first non-Nigerian African to lead the team, praised his squad's fighting spirit: “This is the heart of the Super Eagles. We turned rain into glory and doubt into destiny. Now, we march to the final for a place at the World Cup.”

The victory caps a rollercoaster qualification campaign marked by managerial changes, boycotted training over unpaid bonuses, and a dramatic 4-0 group-stage win over Benin that propelled Nigeria into the play-offs on goal difference. The Super Eagles will face DR Congo on Sunday, November 16, in Rabat, with the winner advancing to the intercontinental play-offs in March for one of two remaining African slots at FIFA World Cup 2026.

Fans erupted in nationwide celebrations, with #SuperEaglesToTheFinal trending globally as supporters hailed Osimhen's heroics and the team's unbreakable resolve.

Mohbad’s Family Demands Fresh Probe into Singer’s Death, Bars Wunmi from Using “Aloba” Surname Pending DNA Paternity Confirmation

The family of the late Afrobeat sensation Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known as Mohbad, has issued a firm directive to his partner, Wunmi Adebanjo, prohibiting her from using the family surname “Aloba” until a court-ordered DNA test conclusively verifies the paternity of their son, Liam. In the same statement, the family renewed urgent calls for a transparent and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s untimely death on September 12, 2023.

The directive, signed by family head Omolayo Aloba and Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, underscores the family’s commitment to justice, legal clarity, and the proper administration of the late singer’s estate. They emphasized that no statutory or customary marriage was ever formalized between Mohbad and Wunmi, as required Yoruba traditional rites, including the payment of bride price, were never completed.

“We instruct Wunmi Adebanjo, the deceased’s partner, to immediately cease using the surname Aloba in public or private records until lawful confirmation of paternity is obtained and the family gives approval,” the statement reads. “The Aloba family remains resolute in its demand for a transparent, independent, and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death. We are committed to seeing that justice is served, the truth uncovered, and those responsible held accountable.”

To manage Mohbad’s estate, the family has appointed three administrators: Ajewole Aloba, Rasaq Famuyiwa, and Alonge Aloba. One position has been reserved for Wunmi, contingent on the DNA results affirming Liam as Mohbad’s biological child. Should the test confirm paternity, both Wunmi and Liam will be fully recognized in the estate process, in accordance with Nigerian inheritance laws and customary practices.

The family has also designated Oladayo Ogungbe, Esq., of Ogungbe & Ogungbe Attorneys, as their sole legal representative for all DNA and estate matters, while Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN, will continue to represent them in investigative proceedings before authorities.

This development follows ongoing disputes and previous court orders for a DNA test, which the family claims have been delayed despite their readiness. Mohbad, who rose to fame with hits like “Peace” and “KPK (Ko Por Ke),” passed away at age 27, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire fans worldwide. His burial remains pending until all legal formalities, including the DNA verification, are resolved.

The family appealed for public patience and respect for the judicial process, assuring that their actions are driven by a pursuit of fairness rather than malice. A new burial date and memorial plan will be announced upon completion of these matters.

Midway through his electrifying performance of the hit single “Ye,” the self-proclaimed “African Giant” abruptly stopped the music, grabbed the microphone, and addressed a fan in the front row whose girlfriend had fallen asleep on his shoulder.

With the arena lights trained on the couple, Burna Boy said:

“Yo, my guy in the blue shirt – yes, you. Your girl is sleeping. Take her home, man. This is not a hotel. Wake her up or carry her out. We’re here to vibe, not to snore.”

Sophia Momodu Explains Decision to Stop Posting Daughter Imade Online: “Her Privacy and Safety Come First”

Businesswoman, brand influencer, and mother Sophia Momodu has opened up about her deliberate choice to shield her daughter, Imade Adeleke, from public social media exposure, citing privacy, safety, and emotional well-being as top priorities.

In a heartfelt statement shared via her verified Instagram account, Momodu addressed growing curiosity from fans and followers:

“I stopped posting Imade online because her privacy and safety come first. She’s a child, not content. The internet can be beautiful, but it can also be unkind. I want her to grow up knowing her worth beyond likes and comments.”

Imade, the first child of Afrobeats superstar Davido and Sophia Momodu, has been a beloved figure in Nigerian pop culture since her birth in 2015. However, in recent years, Momodu has significantly reduced public appearances and photos of the 10-year-old, a move that has sparked widespread discussion.

Momodu continued:

“As her mother, it’s my duty to protect her innocence. She deserves a childhood free from scrutiny, comparison, or unsolicited opinions. I share moments with family and close friends privately – that’s enough.”

The decision aligns with a growing global conversation among celebrity parents about the long-term impact of childhood digital footprints, online bullying, and data privacy concerns.

Momodu, founder of The Sophia Momodu Brand and a UNICEF advocate for child welfare, emphasized that her choice reflects responsible parenting in the digital age rather than any personal dispute.

Fans have shown overwhelming support under the hashtag #ProtectImade, with many praising Momodu’s maturity and foresight.

Sophia Momodu remains active in fashion, philanthropy, and entrepreneurship while maintaining a balanced approach to her public presence.
