The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained 20-year-old social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, following a viral video showing him engaging in reckless driving that led to a serious road crash during a live-stream on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Command confirmed: “The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained, for further investigation, Habeeb Hamzat aka ‘PELLER’, subsequent to the viral video... in which he was seen driving recklessly, leading to a dangerous road crash and serious motor accident, while the incident was being live-streamed, thereby endangering his life and that of other road users.”
The incident, which occurred along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, involved Peller crashing his Mercedes-Benz SUV. Reports indicate the actions were described as suicidal, prompting charges related to attempted suicide in addition to reckless driving. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough probing, with findings to be made public and the suspect arraigned accordingly.
Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a stern warning: “The Commissioner of Police... strongly warns social media influencers, content creators and general members of the public to desist from using social media platforms to engage in or promote reckless, dangerous, or unlawful and criminal acts.” He emphasized zero tolerance for such behavior, reaffirming the Command's commitment to public safety and strict enforcement of traffic laws.
Peller, a prominent Nigerian TikTok star known for his humorous content and energetic live streams, has millions of followers. The arrest has sparked widespread discussions on road safety and responsible use of social media.
