Falz Slams Political Leadership, Religious Institutions Over Worsening Insecurity in Nigeria

 Award-winning Nigerian rapper, actor, and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has strongly criticized the nation’s political leadership and religious institutions over what he describes as their collective failure to address Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.

Speaking during a recent public engagement and in subsequent social media commentary, Falz expressed deep concern over the continuous loss of lives across the country, citing rampant cases of banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, and violent crimes. He described the situation as “heartbreaking and unacceptable,” stressing that Nigerians are increasingly unsafe in their own communities.

Falz accused political leaders of prioritizing personal interests, power struggles, and election cycles over the fundamental responsibility of protecting citizens. According to him, governance has drifted far from accountability, with leaders often offering condolences instead of concrete solutions whenever tragedy strikes.

“People are being killed daily, abducted from their homes and roads, yet those in power continue to act as if this is normal,” Falz said. “Leadership is about responsibility, not excuses.”

The outspoken entertainer also turned his criticism toward religious institutions, accusing some religious leaders of remaining silent or offering only prayers while avoiding direct engagement with systemic issues fueling insecurity. Falz argued that while faith plays an important role in society, religious leaders must go beyond sermons and take firm moral stands against injustice, corruption, and poor governance.

“We cannot continue to spiritualize problems that require practical solutions,” he stated. “Prayer without action will not protect people from bullets or bandits.”

Falz emphasized that insecurity is deeply linked to poverty, unemployment, corruption, and weak institutions, calling for urgent structural reforms, improved policing, intelligence gathering, and accountability within the security architecture. He urged leaders at all levels—federal, state, and local—to treat the crisis as a national emergency.

Known for using his music and platform to address social issues, Falz has consistently advocated for good governance, justice, and human rights.
