Award-winning comedian, filmmaker, and entrepreneur Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has issued a powerful warning to fans and colleagues about the dangers of opportunistic relationships in the entertainment industry.
In a thought-provoking post shared on his verified Instagram and X accounts (@aymakun) on Wednesday evening, the comedy king wrote:
“Beware of those who chase your negativity for clout and money. Some people no dey happy when peace dey reign for your life. The moment small storm come, na dem go first carry microphone. Real friends build with you in private; fake ones tear you down in public for content and settlement. Choose wisely.”
Though AY did not mention any names, the timing of the message has triggered widespread speculation among fans and industry observers. The post comes barely 48 hours after certain blogs and social media personalities heavily amplified reports of a minor disagreement between AY and fellow comedian Basketmouth during a recent event—content that quickly trended nationwide.
Within minutes of posting, the message garnered over 150,000 likes and thousands of comments, with celebrities such as Funke Akindele, Ramsey Nouah, and Bovi reacting with prayer and solidarity emojis.
AY, who has maintained a relatively drama-free public image despite being one of Nigeria’s most successful entertainers, used the opportunity to remind followers about the importance of genuine relationships:
“I thank God every day for the real ones wey dey my corner. The rest? God dey watch everybody in 4K,” he added in the comment section.
