NOLLYWOOD ACTOR IJEBU CALLS FOR THE ARREST OF CONTENT CREATOR KING MITCHY AMID CONCERNS OVER DANGEROUS SOCIAL MEDIA TRENDS

Popular Nollywood actor Tayo Amokade, widely known by his stage name Ijebu, has publicly called on Nigerian police authorities to arrest content creator Michelle Mukoro, popularly known as King Mitchy, following a disturbing incident on TikTok.

In a widely circulated video posted on his Instagram, Ijebu expressed deep concern over King Mitchy’s actions during a recent live session, where she allegedly consumed household cleaner (commonly referred to as “Hypo”) in what appeared to be an attempted suicide or dramatic stunt. The event sparked widespread outrage online, with many highlighting the potential negative influence on young viewers.

Ijebu emphasized the broader societal risks, stating that such content normalizes dangerous behavior and turns harmful substances like insecticides and cleaning agents into viral “content” under the guise of personal distress. He specifically noted the vulnerability of children and teenagers who have access to smartphones and social media platforms.

“We have kids who are already using phones,” Ijebu said in the video. “I don’t know when people turned sniper and Hypo into content in the name of ‘I want to end it all.’ I’m calling on the police to stand up and start arresting them.”

The actor urged law enforcement to intervene decisively to deter similar incidents and protect impressionable audiences from content that could encourage self-harm or reckless online stunts. His comments come amid ongoing debates about mental health awareness, responsible social media use, and the regulation of digital content in Nigeria.

King Mitchy, a brand influencer and philanthropist known for her charitable activities and large online following, has been at the center of controversy following the viral livestream. Reports indicate her management initially announced her passing before retracting the statement, confirming she is alive and okay.

Ijebu’s call has resonated with many fans and commentators who agree that stronger measures are needed to address alarming trends involving suicide threats or simulations for attention on social platforms.

Ijebu, a beloved figure in Nigerian cinema particularly in Yoruba-language films, is recognized for his comedic roles and advocacy on social issues. He continues to use his platform to highlight matters affecting youth and public safety.
